Arnprior’s 2026 budget: a 3% tax rate increase was on the table — here’s how it came together

Mayor McGee's proposed budget included a 3.0% municipal tax rate increase worth about $390,000. Council adopted the budget February 2.

The Town of Arnprior’s 2026 budget was adopted on February 2, capping a process that ran through the winter: public consultations on December 3, 2025, Mayor Lisa McGee’s budget proposal on January 12, and final deliberations on February 2.

The mayor’s proposed budget included a municipal tax rate increase of 3.0%, projected to generate an additional $390,462, alongside roughly $198,825 in new taxation revenue from growth (1.6%) — new homes and buildings added to the tax roll.

One quirk of Ontario’s frozen assessment system worth knowing: your 2026 property taxes are still based on your property’s January 1, 2016 valuation. Provincial reassessment has been paused since the pandemic, so tax increases come through the rate, not through updated home values.

Why it matters: the budget is the single most consequential decision council makes each year — it sets your tax bill and determines which roads, pipes, and facilities get fixed. Full budget documents are posted on the Town’s Budget and Finances page.
