How much should Arnprior’s elected officials be paid? An ad-hoc remuneration committee appointed by council studied that question and delivered recommendations for the 2026–2030 term — and council’s answer, in part, was: keep our pay where it is.
At its April 13 meeting, council directed staff to implement the committee’s recommendations with several exceptions: the mayor’s salary stays at its current level, councillors’ salaries stay at current levels, and a decision on the deputy mayor’s salary was deferred pending more information from the Treasurer. The health-care spending account under the extended health program remains at $1,000.
Council also directed staff to bring forward a by-law authorizing members of council to participate in the OMERS pension plan.
Why it matters: compensation decisions made now take effect for whoever wins the October 26 election — including the pension change, which is a meaningful shift in how council service is compensated.
