How does a town of Arnprior’s size attract family doctors? Partly with a committee, partly with a dinner.
Town council approved a request from the Arnprior & Area Physician Recruitment Committee to waive the Nick Smith Centre community hall rental fees — a value of roughly $470 plus HST — for the committee’s Doctors Dining Duel fundraising event held April 23.
Why it matters: physician recruitment is one of the highest-stakes competitions in rural Ontario. Communities across the Valley offer incentive packages to attract family doctors, and the local committee is Arnprior’s player in that game. For area residents without a family doctor, its success is personal.
